As a key member of CARE Canada's Communications & Public Engagement team, the Public Engagement Specialist reports to the Manager, Communications and Outreach. The Specialist works closely with the SHE SOARS Project Manager, serves as a member of the SHE SOARS CARE Canada Matrix Team, and participates in Project Management Unit meetings to represent the project's Public Engagement pillar. The role collaborates with colleagues across CARE Canada and project partners in Kenya, Uganda and Zambia to align SHE SOARS public engagement with broader project, communications and advocacy priorities.

The Specialist also leads the research and development of a broader approach to youth engagement at CARE Canada, identifying evidence-informed opportunities to meaningfully engage Canadian youth and support long-term audience growth and engagement objectives.

WHAT YOU BRING

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in communications, public engagement or related field (journalism, public relations, international relations)
• Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Experience designing, leading and/or evolving youth engagement programs and providing leadership, guidance or mentorship to youth or volunteer teams.
• Project management and donor reporting experience.
• Experience managing relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, partners and vendors.
• Knowledge of international development issues and familiarity with gender equality and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights programming.
• Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
• Experience with digital communications, social media and web content.
• Capacity to revise, and correct texts with a strong attention to detail
• Capacity to work collaboratively and independently
• Ability to travel in Canada and abroad

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU EXTRAORDINARY

• Photography skills / ability to work with visuals to create compelling communications materials

• Previous experience working in an international NGO including work in development contexts

REQUIREMENTS
